for Affordable Sober Housing

Funding will benefit sober
programs in Boston and Falmouth.

BOSTON – February 15, 2012 –
MassHousing has awarded $68,213 in financing to help preserve affordable sober housing in Falmouth and for support services for existing sober housing in Boston.

Natalie Bezdaris

NEW: Natalie Bezdaris – Natalie lives in Boston’s South End and works as an Operations Manager at Geode Capital Management, LLC. Natalie was born and raised in North Falmouth and retains strong ties to the area. She is the mother of a 3 and ½ year old son, Christos Higgins, named after her deceased father. Her father, Christos Constantine Bezdaris, served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years and was stationed at Otis Air Force base—the reason behind settling on Cape Cod. Natalie has run many road races and the Boston Marathon twice. She runs over 40 miles a week, not motivated by training so much as her love for the sport. This August 14th will be Natalie’s 7th Falmouth Road Race. When asked why she is running for the Falmouth Housing Trust, she replied “This race is by far my favorite. The scenery, people and enthusiasm along the route are constant reminders of what a special place Falmouth is. Running this year in support of the Falmouth Housing Trust will only add to the experience and provide the opportunity to give back to a town that I was so fortunate to grow up in.”
 

Randy Collette

Randy Collette -Lives locally with his wife Katie and two young daughters, Emma, who is three years old and almost two-year old, Elizabeth (shown above). He is a project manager for Williams Building Company, located in West Yarmouth. The Williams Building Company built East Ridge Road, a Falmouth Housing Trust development in 2007. The 2011 running will be Randy’s 3rd Falmouth Road Race.
 

Carol Cremmen

Carol Cremmen – Carol bought her house from the Falmouth Housing Trust is 1999. Carol and her son, John, have lived there since realizing the dream of home-ownership. Carol is an insurance agent for the local firm of Lawrence-Carlin Insurance Agency on Jones Road in Falmouth. John is finishing up his freshman year at Bentley University. The 2011 race will be Carol’s 16th Falmouth Road Race!
 

Patricia Cullinane

Patricia Cullinane – Trish, as her friends call her, bought her condominium from the Falmouth Housing Trust in 2008. She has two children. Trish is a Special Education Teacher at the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, and returned to the area in 2003. A track star for Falmouth High School in the 1980’s, Trish was an important part of the women’s indoor state championship attained by the Clippers in 1984. This will be Trish’s 5th running of the Falmouth Road Race. "I am honored to have been given the opportunity to remain in this wonderful community with the help of the Housing Trust,” said Trish when asked why run for the Trust team.

Caleigh and Megan Haddad are twin sisters.  They grew up in Falmouth and are the oldest children of Sharon and Steven Haddad of West Falmouth.  The 2011 Falmouth Road Race will be the third running for this dynamic duo!  Both graduated from Southern New Hampshire University last year. After graduating they drove across country and spent six months away from home working at a resort in Colorado.  They arrived back in Falmouth after the deadline for Falmouth Road Race numbers.  “When we realized we missed the deadline for numbers, at first we were bummed, but then we were informed about all the charities out there that we can run for and support and were super excited! We are very happy to run for the Falmouth Housing Trust to help support their programs and provide young people the opportunity to live in such an amazing place!”

 

Beth Homand

Beth Homand – Beth lives locally with her husband, Shawn, and four sons, Sam, Tommy, Ben and George. Beth grew-up in Falmouth and returned with her family to make Falmouth their home eight years ago. A Nurse Practitioner at the Community Health Center in Falmouth, she sees firsthand the effects that high housing prices have on working Falmouth families and individuals. “I feel very fortunate that my family is able to live in this wonderful community. We all have a stake in maintaining Falmouth’s affordability for regular middle class people. I am excited to run the Falmouth Road Race to benefit the Falmouth Housing Trust!” Beth said of her latest undertaking. This running will be Beth’s 2nd Falmouth Road Race.
 

Susan Morse

Susan Morse – Susan is a massage therapist and lives in Pocasset temporarily as she cares for an elder parent. Her home is in London, England . This is Susan's second Falmouth Road Race. "I run to keep fit... in body and mind. I especially love running the wooded trails of Cape Cod!" Affordable housing has been an issue for years in London, and one Susan is very familiar with. Susan was active in the 'short life housing co-op' movement in London, which takes derelict, unused buildings and creates a housing cooperative. “What better charity to run the Falmouth Road Race for? Housing is such a huge issue in the UK and here in America. I am anxious to do my part for the Falmouth Housing Trust!”

NEW: Ron Pokraka – Ron and wife of fifty years, Claire, live locally. At age 72 Ron has run all 38 Falmouth Road Races. A seeded runner in his day, Ron, has run with the greats like Johnny Kelley, Bill Rodgers, Frank Shorter, and others. When asked why run for the Falmouth Housing Trust, this father of five answered, “Because they asked!”
 

Jessica Ryan

Jessica Ryan - Jessica grew up in Falmouth and attended Falmouth Schools. While in high school, she was a member of the track team and represented Falmouth High School in national level competitions. She is presently working for Collier International in Cambridge, MA as a property manager. Jessica is the daughter of Addie Drolette, Falmouth Housing Trust Board of Directors President, and the granddaughter of Ralph and Martha Vaccaro of West Falmouth. Having worked in the residential housing industry for 12 years, Jessica understands the importance of affordable, sustainable housing and how it benefits an entire community.
 

Paige Sellers

Paige Sellers – The Trust team also includes our youngest runner, 16 year-old Paige Sellers. Finishing her junior year at Falmouth High School, Paige is a member of the National Art Honor Society, and recently taped a PSA for the Falmouth Housing Trust on FCTV. She lives in West Falmouth with her younger sister, Rebekah, and her parents, Amy and Paul Sellers. Paige is a well-rounded athlete, having danced ballet, played field hockey and tennis for the Falmouth High School Clippers. This August 15th, Paige will run her third Falmouth Road Race, and her second as a Trust team member! When asked why she is running for the Trust, Paige said, "I appreciate all that this community has done for me, and this is just one of the ways that I feel I can help give back. I am fortunate enough to live in Falmouth, and I would like to help give other people the opportunity to live here as well."
 

Terry Souza

NEW: Terry Souza – Terry lives locally with his wife, Kelley, and four sons, Patrick, Colin, Kyle and Sean. Terry has long wanted to strap his running shoes back on, after an impressive career at Falmouth High School in the 1980s as part of the men’s state championship cross-country team. “What better goal, then to run the race for a great local organization?” Terry Souza is the owner of John Neill Building and Remodeling Company, Inc. located in Falmouth. This running will be Terry’s 6th Falmouth Road Race.
 

Jim Taylor

Jim Taylor grew-up in Falmouth and graduated from FHS. He and his wife Kim, (and fellow team member) are moving back to the area this summer with their two children. “Falmouth is a beautiful town that attracts people from all over the country. Many purchase second homes here so that they can visit during the peak summer months. However, it is important that Falmouth keep it’s unique tradition of being a viable community for full time residents and summer residents alike. The key to this is affordable housing for full time residents. They provide the infrastructure and community values that make this one of the most desirable communities in New England. I am proud to run the Falmouth Road Race on behalf of the Falmouth Housing Trust and the vital role it plays in this town’s long term viability,” said Jim Taylor of the experience running to benefit the Trust. Jim has run the Falmouth Road Race too many times to count!
 

Kim Taylor

Kim Taylor – Kim is running her third Falmouth Road Race and her first as a Falmouth resident. Kim and her husband Jim (FHS graduate) are relocating from New York City to Falmouth with their children, Caroline (9) and Elliott (7). "Affordable housing is a key element in the vibrancy of any community. It attracts talented teachers, health care workers and business people who in turn improve schools, health care facilities and community businesses. I am excited to run the Road Race for the Falmouth Housing Trust and thrilled to be moving our family to Falmouth," said Kim of the experience.
